Post: New Podcast Appearance

Dr. Slater plugs his most recent podcast appearance "The Perfect Scam".

Shortly after my article, “How This Financially Literate Doctors Got Scammed Out of $75,000,” was published on the White Coat Investor blog, a representative of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) contacted me. They read my article and wanted me to appear on their podcast, The Perfect Scam, which tells cautionary tales of people getting scammed to entertain and educate their audience. Since that was the reason I wrote the article in the first place, I agreed. I’m more than happy to share my blunders, hoping it helps someone else avoid my mistakes. The episode, Dentist Runs Affinity Fraud Scheme in Austin, can be found online or on your favorite podcast player.

This was only my second podcast appearance, so be kind in your assessment. I think I sound lifeless while retelling the fraud story in the first half, but come to life in the second half when discussing financial education. You can judge for yourself. I learned a few things about podcasting:

  1. I need to get some better equipment if I want to continue to make guest appearances.
  2. The editing process can make you sound better or worse, even in the same podcast.
  3. I must ensure upfront that I can promote this blog on whatever podcast I’m on.
